What is social bookmarking?

Social bookmarking is about sharing web content that interests you with colleagues and friends who might also find it interesting.

Typically this uses either dedicated external bookmarking services (such as Digg and del.icio.us), is incorporated within more general social networking sites (like Facebook or MySpace), or works with one of the many other web collaboration tools (like Twitter or Technorati).

Why?

You don't need a link on each web page to do social bookmarking... but it's a reminder that you could share useful pages if you want to.

We've chosen to use the service from Add This, as this provides a single route to the widest selection of services.

What next?

Most social bookmarking services are free to use, but you will need to choose a service and register with it to start bookmarking.

Each bookmarking service offers different features. Please see the list of bookmarking services on Wikipedia and follow the links to choose the one best for you.

You may also find it useful to check with your usual group of contacts about which services they use. Your bookmarking will be much more effective if you use the same services as your friends and colleagues.
